Founded 55 years ago by the Women’s Division of the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, The Gallery Theatre has long been a cultural beacon. Beginning with a lease and $25 "stock" sales, volunteers transformed the space, producing plays, hosting art exhibits, and other cultural events.

Financial support from stock sales, donations, and grants, including from the National Endowment for the Arts, enabled the theatre to purchase the building in 1982 and undergo significant renovations. Contributions from the Z. Smith Reynolds, Hanes, and Bryan Family Foundations funded further expansions.

Despite many changes, The Gallery Theatre's mission to promote cultural arts has remained unchanged, honoring the dedication and vision of its founders.
